Best Classes

What are some of the best things you've done in class?

  1. Well, the best thing for a 2001 class was to bring a native speaker to the class and let them talk with him/her and do some activities. Also giving some websites for the students like the Arabic google and the Arabic keyboard which helps them a lot searching on the internet things they need and help them studying the materials.

  2. For beginning-level students, I sometimes like to have them physically act-out a series of sentences as they say them out loud. For example, I might first show students four props (like a toothbrush, an alarm clock, a sweater, and a bar of soap). I also list verbs that students can use to make sentences on the board. Students then write sentences based on the props, like "I wake up at six. I brush my teeth. I wash my face. Then I put on my sweater." We correct the sentences and write them on the board. Students then have to act out the sentences with the props while saying them out loud, each student acting out the whole scene. Finally, we erase the sentences from the board and students have to act them out again, remembering based on the props.
