Study Tips for Students

It may not solve all of your students' problems, but there are some good study tips in this New York Times article.

Apparently, students better remember what they've learned if they change their location from time to time - sometimes studying in the library, sometimes in a busy cafe, and sometimes at home, for example. Also, frequent practice tests help students retain what they've learned.

So, next time you see your students start to glaze-over, perhaps a pop-quiz will help. Even if not counted toward their grade, the act of trying to remember new information and skills will actually help students reinforce what they've learned. Or have your students change their seats, or take them to the language lab for a class period. It seems like an occasional change of scenery can help us make new connections with what we're learning and serves as a quick memory boost.
